Earth Balls (fungi)

We had a lovely walk round Corstorphine Hill this lunchtime. It's looking at its autumnal best at the moment.

There are lots of fungi around at the moment, including these impressive earth balls, which seem to have been partially nibbled by a squirrel.

There were also a lot of birds flying around, including redwings and fieldfares - autumn must have arrived!

We have redwings and fieldfares in their hundreds here in the Dales Juliet - they swoop over the fields and gobble all the berries.

What a beautiful lunchtime walk.

Do you know if the earth balls the same as puff balls or another type of fungi?

bunnits - earth balls are related to puffballs but they don't have holes in the top so they don't 'puff'

That first photo is ethereal. I want to step into the woodland and go for a walk there too.
